Temples and Shrines at Sringeri

As a centre of Pilgrimage, Sringeri attracts scores of pilgrims every year. Pilgrims visiting Sringeri seek the blessings of Goddess Sharada, the divinity of Supreme Knowledge, consecrated by Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya Himself. The temple of Sri Vidyashankara, stands as a testimony to time to this day in all its architectural splendour. These and other temples also display the dedication of the Acharyas and the devotees to the various deities consecrated at various times in the hoary past of the Peetham.

Apart from the temples of Sri Sharada and Sri Vidyashankara, which attract devotees from all parts of the country, the Shrine of Sri Malahanikareshwara is not only known for its age old antiquity, but also as an important shrine which the Acharya Himself venerates and worships on special occassions.

Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya, consecrated four deities in the four corners for the Sringeri. These Shrines, namely "Kalabhairava", "Vana Durga", "Kalikamba", "Kere Anjaneya" respectively are worshipped with great reverence. The deities of these temples have protected Sringeri and the Peetham from various invasions, as can be clearly seen in the historical records of the Peetham.

The Vaidika mode of worship is followed at most temples at Sringeri, which is characterised by the Uttering of Vedic Mantras and propitiating deities with various insignalia like flowers etc.
